this large shrub has a delightful strong fragrance that varies between a soft, floral tea and almost pure lemon depending on weather conditions. according to david austin, charles darwin®’s blooms are some of the largest to be found in the english roses. his flowers are very full and rounded opening to a shallow cup in a lovely shade of rich yellow similar to old gold. occasionally, the 140+ petals have a lemony or sandy tint. we prefer to plant charles darwin® in the front of a mixed bed so he can receive the attention he deserves.
